'This is a historic one, and it doesn't belong to just me,' she said in her acceptance speech on January 7, 2024 in Beverly Hills, California. 'I'm holding it with all of my beautiful sisters in the film and my mother [in the movie] Tantoo Cardinal.'

She added, 'I'm so grateful that I can speak even a little bit of my language because in this business, Native actors used to speak their lines in English and then the sound mixers would run them backwards to accomplish Native languages on camera.'

Gladstone also collected Best Actress honors at the Screen Actors Guild Awards; and had been nominated at the Academy Awards and Critics Choice Awards.

The period piece in 1920s Oklahoma featured an ensemble cast including Gladstone, Cardinal, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow and Brendan Fraser.

The Wedding Banquet remake is an updated version of the 1993 film from Ang Lee that garnered the Lee an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film that starred Winston Chao, May Chin and Ah-Lei Gua.
